Info
On October 13, 2026, at the Opéra national de Nancy‑Lorraine (Nancy), Alela Diane and Birds on a Wire share the stage for an evening centered on acoustics and attentive listening.
Alela Diane belongs to an intimate strand of folk, focused on voice and guitar. First revealed by The Pirate’s Gospel, she has carved out a path between austerity and discreet arrangements, from the fragile About Farewell to the more orchestrated Cusp, and on to Looking Glass, which blends piano, strings and country echoes. After time in Portland and working in band formats with Wild Divine, she often returns to clear, direct songwriting that privileges text and melody. In concert, her guitar articulates the pulse, her voice carries the nuances—without effects—in a direct dialogue with the room.
Opposite her, Birds on a Wire brings together Rosemary Standley (Moriarty) and Dom La Nena in a voice-and-cello dialogue. Their playground is covers and reinterpretations: French chansons, English-language pop, baroque pieces or traditional songs, presented in pared-down versions that flow across languages and eras. From Ramages to Nuées Ardentes, the duo weaves sober, inhabited atmospheres in which the acoustic arrangements bring the words and melodic lines to the fore. On stage, the sound remains light and precise, fostering a chamber-like listening that suits the repertoire’s detours.
