The Rasmus

The Rasmus bring their Finnish alt-rock DNA to O2 Academy Oxford in Oxford on 27 February 2027. Formed in Helsinki in 1994 by school friends Lauri Ylönen, Eero Heinonen and Pauli Rantasalmi, the band cut its teeth with the nervy funk-punk-pop of Peep, Playboys and Hellofatester, then steered toward a darker, more melodic edge on Into. Dead Letters opened doors beyond Finland with the single In the Shadows, setting a tone they kept refining between alternative rock, pop rock and hard rock with gothic shades on Hide from the Sun, later folding electronic textures into Black Roses, the self-titled album, Dark Matters and Rise. After drummer Aki Hakala joined in 1999, guitarist Emilia Suhonen stepped in following Rantasalmi’s 2022 departure, the same year the group represented Finland at Eurovision with Jezebel. On stage, The Rasmus thread early bite with later atmospheres, tight rhythms and sing-along hooks carried by Ylönen’s voice, drawing on a catalogue built across Europe, America and Japan tours.
