Info

On 28 May 2026 at YES, Manchester, banjo player and singer Nora Brown brings the Southern Appalachian repertoire to life with clawhammer banjo, guitar and an understated, story-led voice. Her solo record Long Time To Be Gone moves between spare laments and finely etched instrumentals. By 19, she had already released three albums, a single and an EP on Jalopy Records.

She appears in duo with award-winning fiddler Stephanie Coleman. First brought together by Brooklyn’s old-time community, they trade tunes, crooked melodies and unhurried ballads; Coleman’s seasoned fiddle lines lock to Brown’s rolling banjo pulse. Coleman has toured and recorded internationally over two decades, including with all-women string band Uncle Earl.

Brown began at six under the late Shlomo Pestcoe, and has learned from Alice Gerrard, George Gibson, the late John Cohen, Lee Sexton and John Haywood. That lineage grounds a set that digs into tradition while keeping it present.

Support comes from Séamus Óg, an Irish multi-instrumentalist whose contemporary folk grows from strong trad roots. Playing guitar and ten-string cittern, he shapes clear melodies over ringing, layered accompaniment.
