Fat Freddy's Drop

Fat Freddy’s Drop land in Bristol on 16 October 2026 at The Prospect Building to mark 21 years of Based on a True Story, the album that set their course. Formed in Wellington, the New Zealand crew folds reggae and dub into soul, jazz and electronic shades, building songs in long arcs where horns weave through heavy bass, synths shimmer, and Joe Dukie’s voice holds the centre. Their live method favours feel over formula: grooves evolve, parts trade places, and the mix swells with dubbed textures.

For this anniversary show, the seven-piece leans back into the debut that introduced their live‑first approach: extended versions, dubbed‑out breaks and a slow‑burn lift. The set balances those originals with later cuts, reconstructed in real time by rhythm section, keyboards and brass. It’s a return to the foundations of Fat Freddy’s Drop, revisited by the musicians who wrote them, delivered with the warmth and space that have kept the band’s sound moving for more than two decades.
