Current Joys

Current Joys brings Nick Rattigan’s singular songwriting to KOKO, London, on 25 August 2026. Launched in the early 2010s out of Nevada alongside his work with Surf Curse, the project began in a raw, lo-fi vein. Records like Wild Heart (2013) and Me Oh My Mirror (2015) mixed indie rock, bedroom pop and scrappy electric folk, with diary-like lyrics and unvarnished guitars setting the tone.

From A Different Age (2018) onward, Current Joys widened the frame: more structured pop writing, a pull toward new wave textures and a post-punk edge. Voyager (2021) pushed further into open, cinematic spaces without losing the DIY grain. On stage, Rattigan threads these phases together, moving from spare, confessional pieces to tighter, full-band momentum. Simple melodies, restrained tempos and a deliberately rough surface keep the songs close to the bone while letting them swell when needed. This show leans into that balance, tracing the path from intimate, guitar-led sketches to broader, atmospheric stretches, with arrangements that shift between lo-fi immediacy and a more expansive, restless pulse.
