Jacqui McShee’s Pentangle is a modern folk band. Rooted in the ethos of the original Pentangle, the current line-up features musicians playing Pentangle's original and new songs.
Known for their combination of traditional and non-traditional elements, Pentangle explored new directions in folk. Jacqui McShee and the band continue to refine the music and perform at gigs and festivals.
The original band played the Isle of Wight Festivals (1969 and 1970), Newport Folk Festival, Fillmore East and West, Carnegie Hall and the Royal Festival Hall. Moving beyond traditional folk, they created a music rooted in jazz, folk and blues, and were billed alongside artists such as Miles Davis, Jimi Hendrix, the Grateful Dead, Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan and The Band.
Pentangle founder member Jacqui McShee is the link to the first days of the original band. Subsequent line-ups have featured her unmistakable voice and approach, with contemporary players interpreting the songs in diverse ways. Jacqui McShee’s Pentangle centres around Spencer Cozens – keyboards, vocals (also a producer and player on many records), Alan Thomson – bass, Pascal Consoli – drums, and Martin Winnings – clarinet and flute.
The varied styles of the musicians renew the music and underpin Jacqui’s voice. Live sound is handled by sound engineer Paul Smith.
