Info

Shalamar bring The Gold Tour – A Fifty Year Celebration to Cambridge Corn Exchange on 19 June 2026. Born out of Soul Train in mid‑70s Los Angeles, the group moved from a studio project and the Uptown Festival medley to a full vocal trio, forging a blend of R&B, funk and disco. Under SOLAR Records with Leon Sylvers III, the classic era around Jody Watley, Jeffrey Daniel and Howard Hewett refined tight harmonies and club‑focused grooves across albums like Big Fun, Three for Love, Friends and The Look. Their story also intersects with street‑dance culture, with Daniel’s performances helping carry new moves to UK audiences.

This show looks back on that trajectory: early disco roots, synth‑tinged early‑80s cuts, slow jams and dancefloor tracks that travelled between the U.S. and Britain. Five decades in, Shalamar’s catalogue still connects through melody, rhythm and the interplay of voices. In Cambridge, expect a career‑spanning set from a group that has evolved through line‑up changes while keeping the late‑70s/early‑80s soul‑funk sound alive on stage.
