Info
Skipinnish take over Caird Hall in Dundee on 15 May 2026. Founded in 1999 in Glasgow by accordionist Angus MacPhail and piper Andrew Stevenson, the band sits at the meeting point of Highlands tradition and contemporary folk. Their sound is anchored by accordion and Highland pipes, with whistles, fiddle and a solid rhythm section giving lift to dance tunes before dropping into slower airs and story-led songs. Sung mainly in English while keeping a clear line to Gaelic culture, their repertoire moves from ceilidh-rooted sets and Hebridean melodies to folk-rock shades forged across their own label, with albums like The Seventh Wave and Steer by the Stars. Over time, Skipinnish have grown from the founding duo into a flexible live outfit, bringing distinctive lead voices and tight ensemble playing. In Dundee, expect a set that swings between reels, strathspeys and chorus-led songs, delivered with the kind of collective pulse that keeps feet moving and melodies lingering.
