Info
The Chameleons bring their atmospheric post-punk to XOYO Birmingham on 7 August 2026. Born on the outskirts of Manchester in the early 80s, the band forged a guitar-driven sound built on insistent basslines, chiming, echo-soaked riffs and Mark Burgess’s taut vocals. On stage today, Burgess carries the name with a formation that stays true to that blend of tension and melody.
The set draws from their core albums — Script of the Bridge (1983), What Does Anything Mean? Basically (1985) and Strange Times (1986) — with room for the 2000s revival period, from the stripped-back retakes of Strip to the newer material on Why Call It Anything. Songs unfold in layers: wide guitars, forward-marching drums, lines that hang then resolve, moving from shadow to clarity without losing momentum.
Four decades in, The Chameleons still play with a feel for space and lift. Birmingham gets the arc of their catalogue: early cornerstones, mid-tempo surges and closing stretches that let the melodies ring out long after the last chord.
