Max Cooper

Max Cooper lands at The Glasshouse - International Centre for Music in Gateshead on 21 May 2026. Belfast-born and London-based, the producer moves between electronica, melodic techno, ambient and experimentation, building sets where detailed rhythms meet layered atmospheres and a clear sense of narrative. Trained as a geneticist with a PhD in computational biology, he folds scientific ideas into sound, turning patterns, data and structures into melodies, pulses and space.

His work often takes shape as conceptual audiovisual cycles. Albums like Human, Emergence, One Hundred Billion Sparks or Yearning for the Infinite map out a path where music, mathematics and architecture speak the same language. Through his Mesh label, Cooper develops collaborations with digital artists and engineers, shaping immersive visuals that extend the music rather than decorate it. On stage, expect an AV performance that evolves patiently, from fine-grain textures to wider crescendos, drawing a line between club energy and contemplative listening.
