Info
On 21 November 2026, Squeeze bring their sharp, story-driven pop to Liverpool Arena, 16 Monarchs Quay, Liverpool, with very special guest Billy Bragg. Formed in London around the songwriting partnership of Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook, Squeeze helped define British new wave with concise hooks and everyday vignettes. From Take Me I’m Yours, Cool for Cats and Up the Junction to the more expansive East Side Story period, their catalogue blends taut arrangements, keyboards and guitars with a dry, observational tone. Through changes of line-up, Difford and Tilbrook remain the creative core, carrying a songbook that’s both lean and melodic. Recent releases like Cradle to the Grave and The Knowledge confirm a band still writing with craft while honouring the tracks that shaped their identity.
Joining the bill, Billy Bragg brings his unmistakable voice, electric guitar and direct delivery. Emerging from early-80s post-punk, he carved a sound that threads folk sensibility with punk bite across Life’s a Riot with Spy vs Spy, Brewing Up and Talking with the Taxman about Poetry. His lyrics move between social observation, political conscience and affairs of the heart. The scope widened on Workers Playtime and Don’t Try This at Home, and later with the Mermaid Avenue sessions alongside Wilco setting Woody Guthrie’s words to music. Bragg’s recent The Million Things That Never Happened shows an artist still honing plain-spoken songs with purpose.
