Self Esteem is Rebecca Lucy Taylor’s solo vehicle, a pop project that swaps indie guitars for crisp beats, layered harmonies and spoken interludes. Since stepping away from Slow Club, she’s built a catalogue that cuts straight to the point: Compliments Please, Prioritise Pleasure and A Complicated Woman mix choral swells, string flourishes and punchy rhythms with lyrics that pick apart daily life, relationships and social pressure. Live, the songs land with clear hooks and tight vocal arrangements, carried by a stagecraft that keeps the focus on words, movement and pulse.
Kae Tempest brings a different charge, poised between spoken word, rap and minimal electronics. From Everybody Down to Let Them Eat Chaos, The Book of Traps and Lessons, The Line Is a Curve and Self Titled, their pieces read like urban vignettes set to a steady throb, shifting from hushed reflection to clipped urgency. The performance centres on cadence and narrative, with production that leaves room for the text to breathe. Self Esteem and Kae Tempest share the stage on 24 July 2026 at Cardiff Castle.
