Info
On 3 July 2026, The Divine Comedy plays Usher Hall in Edinburgh. Led by Northern Irish songwriter Neil Hannon, the project has shaped a distinct chamber-pop voice since the late 1980s, blending strings, piano and woodwinds with concise, literate melodies. On stage, Hannon mène la danse with a flexible band that shifts from compact pop to fuller orchestrations, always keeping the spotlight on storytelling and arrangement.
The show will draw widely across the catalogue: the early poise of Liberation and Promenade, the sharp narrative flair of Casanova and the widescreen sweep of Fin de Siècle, through the leaner Regeneration and the reflective Absent Friends and Victory for the Comic Muse, up to Bang Goes the Knighthood, Foreverland and Office Politics. Hannon’s baritone and dry humour thread through songs that sketch romantic detours, everyday scenes and soft social satire. With warm arrangements, precise dynamics and a balance of favourites and recent material, the night traces how The Divine Comedy’s songwriting has evolved while keeping its craft front and centre.
