Info

On 1 August 2026 at The Piece Hall in Halifax, Opeth leads a bill that draws the line between progressive rock intricacy and metal weight, with Katatonia and Paradise Lost completing the arc.

Opeth, formed in Stockholm and steered by Mikael Åkerfeldt, moves with ease from labyrinthine riffs to quiet acoustic breaks, from growled passages to clear, measured vocals. Their live sets stitch together eras: the atmospheric pull of Blackwater Park and Ghost Reveries, the heavier contours of Deliverance, and the vintage-tinged textures heard since Heritage and In Cauda Venenum. It’s all about tension, release and long-form storytelling.

Katatonia brings a different shade of Nordic melancholy. Jonas Renkse’s fragile, contained voice sits over guitar lines that blur doom-rooted gravity with a modern, melodic pulse. Expect slow-burn dynamics, subtle electronics and songs that drift between introspection and surge, drawn from a catalogue where weight and delicacy share the same space.

Back on home turf, Paradise Lost channels the bridge between doom metal heft and a colder, gothic sensibility. Nick Holmes and Gregor Mackintosh drive songs built on sober hooks, thick guitars and a tone that stays dark without losing clarity. From Gothic and Draconian Times to more recent chapters, the band’s focus on contrast—crushing riffs, spare melodies, measured tempos—remains the thread.
