From the avant-garde spirit of Red Red Meat to the deconstructed Americana of Califone, Tim Rutili’s musical metamorphoses have always followed a common thread: a connection to roots, fragmented and reassembled through a personal sensibility that has made his folk-tinged visions a point of reference for those today engaging with the union of tradition and experimentation.
Between 2023 and 2025 Califone released two closely linked albums, Villagers and The Villager's Companion (nine tracks that didn’t make it onto the first). Both reaffirm Rutili’s path through dusty, rough-hewn and visionary folk-rock.
