Info
On July 27, 2026, Daniela Mercury will perform at Melkweg in Amsterdam. The singer from Salvador, Bahia has linked her voice since the late 1980s to dance, street carnival and Afro-Brazilian rhythms. After starting with bloco Eva and working as a backing vocalist for Gilberto Gil, she launched her solo career in 1991. Her music moves fluidly between axé, samba-reggae, MPB and samba, and through periods with pop or electronic accents, always driven by Bahian percussion and the energy of the trio elétrico.
With O Canto da Cidade (1992) she broke through nationally; Música de Rua (1994) and Feijão com Arroz (1996) consolidated her position, including outside Brazil. Afterwards came albums that explored new crossovers: from Sol da Liberdade (2000) and Carnaval Eletrônico (2004) to more acoustic or orchestral approaches on Balé Mulato (2005), Canibália (2009), Vinil Virtual (2015), Perfume (2020) and Baiana (2022). Along the way she has collaborated with Olodum, Herbert Vianna, Milton Nascimento, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil and Carlinhos Brown. Live, Mercury’s shows are about groove, backing vocals, percussion and a physical performance that brings Bahia to the stage. In Amsterdam that mix of axé, samba-reggae and MPB will come together in a compact, danceable form, with room for classics and recent work.
