Current Joys

Current Joys is Nick Rattigan’s solo project and has moved between indie rock, lo-fi and bedroom pop since the early 2010s. The productions deliberately sound unpolished: intimate vocals, jagged guitars, spare beats. This reduction focuses attention on lyrics that read like diary excerpts. From A Different Age to Voyager, Rattigan demonstrates how he melds intimacy with larger arrangements without losing immediacy.

Live he appears on stage with a band, sharpening that very tension between roughness and melody. Tempos are often restrained, small frictions provide accents, and the songs breathe and grow. As one half of Surf Curse, Rattigan shows another side of his writing; with Current Joys he remains closer to the personal and the raw core. In August he will be touring Germany with his band; the Berlin date is on 18 August 2026 at Neue Welt. Expect a focused set that combines new material with long-held favorites — music that favors presence over polish.
