Info
KRS-One will be appearing at Cabaret Sauvage on July 19, 2026. Born Lawrence Parker in Brooklyn and raised in the South Bronx, he emerged in the mid-1980s with Boogie Down Productions alongside DJ Scott La Rock. Criminal Minded (1987) laid the groundwork for a rap rooted in urban reality and street culture. After Scott La Rock’s death, KRS-One continued on a path where political commentary and community self‑defense take center stage.
With Return of the Boom Bap (1993), he opened a solo chapter defined by a frontal boom‑bap sound, a direct flow and lyrics that weave personal narrative, hip‑hop history and spiritual references. Nicknamed “The Teacha,” he approaches rap as a cultural and educational practice, nourished by his public speaking and the Temple of Hip Hop.
On stage at Cabaret Sauvage, he brings these fundamentals back to the fore: BDP songs, standout tracks from the albums KRS‑One (1995) and I Got Next (1997), collaborations and more recent cuts — all delivered with a no‑frills vocal delivery and tight, precise rhythms. A Parisian rendezvous to reconnect with an MC in the literal sense of the word, balancing transmission and verbal precision in the heart of the 19th arrondissement.
