Info

On 19 April 2026 at Hafenklang in Hamburg, Upstream rolls out WHIRL, where physical drive meets restless circuitry. It opens with Kris Kuldkepp on no-input mixer, folding the desk’s electronics back on themselves into pulses, hiss and feedback. Ka Baird follows with A thousand miles of hungry static, built from extended voice and microphone techniques, live-processed flutes, samples and feedback. Closing, 011668 confronts petrocapitalism, spinning a contemporary creation myth with shards of butoh, Japanese sci-fi and film noir.

011668 is an American interdisciplinary artist exploring spirituality, mythology and cosmogony through the digital age. Treating industrial systems as a modern pantheon, their performances braid movement, image and saturated sound into stark tableaux. They question how belief, extraction and technology shape bodies and futures.

Ka Baird, based in New York, moves between performance, sound art and composition. Using breath, extended vocal work and close-miked textures with electronics and flute, they push voice and instrument into zones where rhythm, drone and noise cross. A present-tense approach, part improvisation, part structure, drives a ritual, physical delivery.

Hamburg-based Kris Kuldkepp works across experimental music, performance and music theatre. With roots in double bass, they now combine DIY instruments, modular systems and feedback chains to examine how sound behaves in space. For WHIRL, their no-input practice anchors the opening with raw, spatial resonance.
