Johnny Marr

Johnny Marr brings his unmistakable guitar craft to Verona on 16 July 2026 at Teatro Romano, as part of Contaminazioni Musicali – Estate Teatrale Veronese. Born in Manchester, he shaped a bright, agile approach built on ringing arpeggios, counter-melodies and a tight rhythmic pulse, drawing from post-punk, British pop and 60s rock. After the Smiths, Marr kept moving: The The, Electronic with Bernard Sumner, then Modest Mouse and The Cribs, widening his scope toward a more direct indie rock without losing that harmonic precision.

His solo work — The Messenger, Playland, Call the Comet, Fever Dreams Pts 1–4 — sharpens that line: concise songs, electric pop contours and discreet synth textures, always anchored by a clear guitar motif. On stage, he links that economy of writing with sharp dynamics: chiming rhythms, quick turns and lines that cut through the mix. The set draws from his solo catalogue and pivotal collaborations, balancing driving alternative rock with luminous pop shades. A night centered on songcraft and groove, led by a guitarist-composer who lets melody and rhythm do the talking.
