Anohni « Wilderness »

Info

On April 16, 2026, Anohni performs with Wilderness at Koninklijk Theater Carré in Amsterdam. A singer, composer and visual artist, born in Chichester and raised between England, California and New York, she found her place in the queer performance scene of the 1990s and founded Antony and the Johnsons. With that formation she built a repertoire of intimate ballads and orchestral chamber pop; albums such as I Am a Bird Now and Swanlights placed her voice at the intersection of indie, cabaret and classical influences.

Under the name Anohni her work shifted toward electronic and experimental pop. Hopelessness and the EP Paradise introduced crisp synth textures, rhythms close to dance and lyrics written with direct political intent. Themes such as gender identity, ecology, surveillance and contemporary forms of violence run through her texts, without abandoning introspection.

In 2023 Anohni and the Johnsons released My Back Was a Bridge For You to Cross, a step back toward a more organic sound, nourished by soul, slow rock and spare arrangements. Live, Anohni moves between songwriting and performance, in dialogue with musicians from pop, electronics and contemporary music. Wilderness promises a concentration of those strands: a set that places her voice, the space and the story she carries at the center, between new work and earlier repertoire.
