Jazz Sabbath

Jazz Sabbath will perform on 6 September 2026 at SPOT/De Oosterpoort in Groningen. The trio led by British keyboardist Adam Wakeman reinterprets Black Sabbath’s repertoire as instrumental jazz, with piano, bass and drums at its core. The approach leans toward hard bop, modal jazz and the swing idiom of the 1960s: heavy riffs become themes, guitar lines turn into motifs for improvisation.

Live, Jazz Sabbath opts for a club-like setting. The arrangements are built on space, interaction and shifts in rhythm and time signature, while the structure of the original compositions remains recognizable. Familiar songs do not return as literal covers, but as starting points for collective interplay, variation and dynamic contrast.

Since the debut album Jazz Sabbath (2020) and its follow-up Jazz Sabbath Vol. 2 (2022), the project has established its own identity, including a mockumentary that sketches an alternative band history. On stage the trio moves between jazz audiences and their metal roots, equally at home in clubs as in festival and rock lineups. In Groningen the band will present a set that bridges both worlds and approaches the original without imitating it.
