Buzzcocks + support

Buzzcocks will play on Saturday 7 March 2026 at Patronaat in Haarlem. Formed in the mid-1970s around Pete Shelley and Howard Devoto, the band grew out of Bolton/Manchester to become one of the sharpest voices of the first wave of punk. After the DIY single Spiral Scratch (1977) the focus shifted to short, direct songs in which punk’s momentum meets instantly catchy melodies. Another Music in a Different Kitchen and Love Bites (both 1978) and A Different Kind of Tension (1979) defined that mix: tight rhythms, pointed hooks, and lyrics about relationships, desire and the frictions of everyday life.

After a break the band returned in the 1990s with new material and a consistent live energy. Since Pete Shelley’s death in 2018, Steve Diggle has continued the band as frontman. Recent releases include The Way (2014) and Sonics in the Soul (2022), still favouring compact structures and choruses that cut. Expect a set in Haarlem that places early classics alongside newer material, with that recognizable tension between speed and melody. Support will be announced later.
