The Get Up Kids

The Get Up Kids bring their mix of emo, melodic punk and indie rock to TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht on 6 August 2026. Since the mid-1990s Matt Pryor, Jim Suptic, Rob Pope and Ryan Pope, with James Dewees on keyboards, have been crafting songs with direct melodies, driving guitars and introspective lyrics. Their breakthrough followed Four Minute Mile (1997) and Something to Write Home About (1999), albums in which keyboards secured a permanent place without sacrificing their early urgency.

On stage they move effortlessly between energetic outbursts and more restrained passages. Tracks from On a Wire (2002) and Guilt Show (2004) add indie and power-pop accents, while There Are Rules (2011), the Kicker EP (2018) and Problems (2019) demonstrate how the band continues to hone that balance between tension and melody. Live, it’s about earworm choruses, compact dynamics and a rhythm section that drives tightly, with themes around time, family and relationships. A set that spans their entire trajectory: from fast guitar lines and sing-along backing vocals to space for keyboards and nuance, without losing sight of the core.
