Candy Dulfer

On June 20, 2026, Candy Dulfer will perform at Metropool in Hengelo. The Amsterdam alto saxophonist has moved confidently between jazz, funk and pop since her teenage years. With her band she lays down a solid live groove in which melodies and improvisations alternate smoothly. It’s the thread running through her career: from the breakthrough with "Lily Was Here" (with Dave Stewart) and the debut album Saxuality to records such as Sax-a-Go-Go, Big Girl, Right in My Soul, Candy Store, Together and We Never Stop.

On stage it’s all about sound and timing: that open, direct alto sax tone, call-and-response with the rhythm section, R&B-tinged hooks and space to stretch out without losing the song. Expect a set where familiar favourites sit alongside more recent material, developed in long grooves and compact themes. The Prince connection sometimes comes through in the arrangements and feel, but the focus is on interplay and the energy of the moment. A concert that builds organically, with the sax as the guiding thread and the band close to the audience.
