The Barr Brothers

The Barr Brothers, the Canadian project of brothers Brad and Andrew Barr, will perform at SPOT/De Oosterpoort in Groningen on 24 April 2026. Since moving to Montréal they have developed an idiosyncratic blend of folk and indie, with a crafted, organic approach: inventive guitar lines, subtly layered drums and an ear for texture and silence. The harp signature that coloured their early work still resonates in the repertoire, alongside blues accents and percussive patterns that give the songs room to breathe.

Their self-titled 2011 debut introduced dreamlike folk with minimal keyboards; Sleeping Operator (2014) broadened the sonic palette with atmospheric arrangements and influences from African percussion; Queens of the Breakers (2017) further foregrounded melody and layering. On stage, it’s about dynamics and precision: compact songs are carefully unraveled, themes return in new guises and arcs of tension are patiently built. Between whispering ballads and pulsing grooves unfolds a set that foregrounds the stories in the songs, with attention to detail, rhythm and space.
