John Hiatt

On July 6, 2026 John Hiatt will appear at De Doelen in Rotterdam. The American singer-songwriter, guitarist and pianist has moved between rock, folk, country and rhythm & blues since the 1970s. He began in Nashville writing for others and then charted his own course with early records such as Hangin’ Around the Observatory and Overcoats. In the 1980s his sound shifted toward roots rock with Bring the Family and Slow Turning; later albums included Stolen Moments, Perfectly Good Guitar and Walk On. His songs are widely covered, but they come closest to their true form live: storytelling lyrics, direct melodies and a slightly weathered voice that carries an acoustic ballad as easily as a midtempo rocker. From Crossing Muddy Waters onward he explored a more acoustic approach and continued to alternate between solo work, band formats and collaborations, most recently with The Jerry Douglas Band on Leftover Feelings. Expect a set that travels through the years, from country-tinged ballads to blues-tinged songs.
