On January 1, 2027, at Newspeak in Montreal, What So Not presents a set shaped by a decade of twists and collaborations. Originally formed in Sydney as the duo of Flume and Chris Emerson (aka Emoh Instead), the project has been Emerson’s solo outlet since 2015, blending trap, future bass and electronica. The sound moves between airy synth textures and drum work rooted in hip‑hop and club culture, with melodic hooks that cut through and sudden switch‑ups that drive the momentum.

In performance, What So Not draws on the early EPs 7 Dollar Bill and The Quack, moves through Gemini and Divide & Conquer, and unfolds into the albums Not All the Beautiful Things and Anomaly. Studio collaborations have included Skrillex, RL Grime, George Maple, San Holo, Toto and Rome Fortune, and that range informs a stage approach built on evolving structures rather than straightforward bangers.
