Rebekka Bakken

On 28 November 2026, Rebekka Bakken will take the stage at Die Glocke in Bremen. The Norwegian, born near Oslo, has for years moved between jazz, pop and folk, with formative stops across Scandinavia, New York and Vienna. After early experiences in rock and gospel bands, she emerged on the European jazz scene around the turn of the millennium—among others with guitarist Wolfgang Muthspiel and the word‑music project Scattering Poems, setting texts by E. E. Cummings with the Julia Hülsmann Trio. Her solo debut, The Art of How to Fall (2003), marked the start of a career that places songwriting at its center, with jazz‑tinged harmonies and often intimate tonal colors. Subsequent albums include Is That You? (2005), I Keep My Cool (2006), Morning Hours (2009) and September (2011); Little Drop Of Poison (2014) was dedicated to Tom Waits. She later broadened her palette with Things You Leave Behind (2018), Winter Nights (2020) and Always On My Mind (2022). Live, Bakken blends English‑language ballads, Americana influences and more rhythmic numbers, carried by narrative lyrics and a band that allows room for dynamics. In Bremen she will bring together songs from different phases of her career—between quiet moments and livelier passages.
