Info
Matt Berninger brings his deep baritone and fine-grained storytelling to Midway Music Hall in Edmonton on March 13, 2026. Best known as the singer and lyricist of The National, he has spent two decades shaping a dark, melodic strain of indie rock where slow tension, family snapshots and city nights meet spare guitars and subtle crescendos. As a solo artist, he leans further into the songwriter craft: Serpentine Prison (2020) trades in warm keys, discreet horns and unhurried grooves, keeping the words at the center.
Beyond The National, Berninger likes to open side doors. With Brent Knopf, he formed EL VY and released Return to the Moon, a more direct, pop-leaning detour. He also writes for soundtracks and collaborates widely across the US and Europe. On stage, expect a set that moves between his solo material, a few EL VY turns and reimagined cuts from across his catalog, carried by that steady baritone and a band that lets the songs breathe. All ages welcome, general admission.
