Peekaboo

Detroit-born and now LA-based producer Matthew Lucas, aka Peekaboo, brings his pared-back, heavy take on dubstep to Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver on February 20, 2026. A fixture of the US bass scene, he works with low-end pressure, stuttered drum patterns and eerie textures that nod to hip-hop as much as to horror cinema, carving tracks where space becomes part of the groove.

The project emerged in the mid-2010s with early online releases, then sharpened through the EPs Imposters and Waking Nightmare (both 2018 on Wakaan) and Impossible (2019), tracing a line between dubstep, trap and experimental bass. Collaborations with G‑Rex, Bassnectar and Zeds Dead place him at the junction of today’s bass movements, from sound system culture to big-room EDM and darker explorations. On stage, Peekaboo channels that minimal, high-intensity approach into sets tuned for subs and clean, snapping drops, staying true to the cinematic edge that runs through his studio work.
