On October 9, 2026, Panchiko arrives at La Cigale in Paris. Born in Nottingham and long kept in the shadows, the band was thrust into the spotlight by a singular story: in 2016, a user on /mu/ discovered a damaged CD, D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L, supposedly burned in 2000. Ripped despite the disc’s physical decay and shared on websites and then on YouTube, the recording circulated and aroused curiosity. On Reddit and Discord, internet users investigated, scrutinized the sleeve, even called the Nottingham record shop to separate fact from fiction.

Behind the mystery were four musicians: Owain, Andy, Shaun and John. A message sent to an old Facebook page, a laconic reply — “Yeah” — and doubt dissipated: Panchiko existed, and those songs did too. Since then the story has moved off the forums and onto the stage; the band has added numerous dates, notably in the United States, and today counts hundreds of millions of streams.

At La Cigale, this legend born online shifts from myth to live performance. It’s a Parisian occasion to reconnect with tracks rediscovered by chance, which traveled from a record-shop bin to the ears of an entire community, now ready to unfold on stage — without the crackle of damaged discs.
