Étinsel MalOya

Born in La Réunion, Etinsel Maloya brings together around Jordan Perigone, also active under the name LAFRIKIN, a collective of young musicians who place maloya in a contemporary form without breaking with its traditional foundations. The project relies on the rhythms, choirs and the Creole language that are intrinsic to this island’s emblematic music, while weaving in more urban and contemporary colors. Driven by an expanded on‑stage lineup, Etinsel Maloya develops a repertoire in which percussion holds a central place, with a direct, collective approach rooted in Réunion’s cultural history. The group gained visibility in 2023 with the track Byin arrivé, released as a clip, marking a milestone in its emergence. In the same period, the EP Byin arrivé appeared, outlining Etinsel Maloya’s style: energetic maloya, open to other rhythmic textures, but attached to the transmission of Creole identity. Through Etinsel Maloya, Jordan Perigone thus pursues work centered on Réunionese popular expression, between heritage, circulation of influences and writing anchored in the present.
